Sketchbook

Changing Room Gallery
12th December - 16th January 2024

Curated by Nour Abdullatif, Nathan McGlynn and Bradley East.

A sketchbook is many things; confidant, partner in crime, antagonist, ally, a sounding board and a biographical document. Devoid of aesthetic and relational rules which might govern a finished artwork, It is the first point of call to explore all of the intimate or personal questions that drive artistic enquiry. It is also often the waste bin of ideas, images and emotions. Rarely intended for public display, the sketchbook creates a space for musings which might not find their way into finished works but contribute to the artist’s creative output.
SKETCHBOOK 24 looks to explore the ways in which these myriad positions connect. Featuring the work of more than 30 artists, the exhibition will present both sketchbooks and finished works, allowing viewers to discover the links between the artist’s general practice and their eventual product.
